Yesterday, Mr. Christian Bartolo from FSWS (Family Support and Welfare Services) delivered an insightful talk to a selected group of Year 10 students. During his presentation, he provided an overview of the various branches and services within FSWS, highlighting how these areas play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families in need from different walks of life. The students were also introduced to the different aspects of social work, from child protection and mental health services to specialised programs for vulnerable populations.

Mr. Bartolo created an awareness of the vast range of people who benefit from social work, including children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities and marginalized communities. He spoke passionately about the social work profession and how it can have a positive impact on the quality of life of service users.

An important aspect of the talk was Mr. Bartolo’s presentation of the 10 most important skills needed in social work. He explained how these skills are essential in fostering effective relationships with clients, in knowing how to navigate through complex situations as well as in managing boundaries and caring for self.

The speaker also gave students the time to ask questions, creating an engaging environment. There was also the chance to talk about the different avenues through which students can qualify as a social worker.

Overall, the talk provided valuable insights into the world of social work, offering the Year 10 students a deeper understanding of the profession and its wide-ranging impact on individuals and communities. This was organised by The Guidance Team and NSWS.
