Subject Information

What is ICT C3?

In ICT C3, students will learn important digital fundamentals, such as; digital ethics, digital safety, coding, robotics, 3d printing and home manufacturing, automation, IoT (Internet of Things), digital currencies and blockchain amongst other themes.

It is important to note that ICT was developed to work holistically with other digital subjects available as optional subjects in secondary schools, such as Computer Studies and VET IT. This work was done to reduce drastically the repetition which may arise and to be instead of an added value to these subjects if they are chosen in unison with the core ICT C3 subject. ICT C3 will also highlight other issues which surround traditional digital subjects currently being taught around the world, such as careers in Technology, digital ethics and the ever-important subject of Women in technology and the impact of the female gender on today’s technological landscape as well as digital entrepreneurship.

Certification

At Year 11 students will be presented with an ICT C3 certification at Level 1, 2 or 3, depending on the annual results attained along the 5-year course between Year 7 and Year 11. If Level 3 is attained, this will be equivalent of an ‘O’ Level. Most sixth forms in Malta are now accepting this certification as an entry requirement like any other ‘O’ level subject.

Year 7: Basic Computer Skills & Robotics

Year 8: Animation (using Synfig) & Game Development (using Scratch)

Year 9: Video Editing (Windows 10 – Video Editor App) & Web Development (Open Element)

Year 10: Sound Editing (Audacity) & 3D Modelling (Sketchup)

Year 11: Image Editing (GIMP)

All software used for the above coursework can be downloaded from esh.ilearn.edu.mt (using the student’s iLearn username and password to login)

Exam Content

The final exam mark is split up into 3 parts: 2 practical and 1 written.

The practical parts consist of 2 Courseworks as outlined above which carry 30% each and these will be done in the computer labs during the scholastic year.

The written part consists of a multiple choice exam paper which carries the remaining 40%. Questions in this paper are based on:

– the theoretical chapters found in the textbooks; and

– the content of the videos which are found on the official C3 website for each year group
